Therapeutic and Phytochemical profiling of Morinda tinctoria – an appraisal

Abstract

Nuna is a herb, Morinda Tinctoria, commonly known as Indian Mulberry from Rubiaceae family which is native in South Asia, Eastern India and Pacific islands. The species Morinda grows wildly grows and distributed in South India particularly in Western Ghats of Tamilnadu. The M. Tinctoria mostly grows a like wild plant tree in vacant agricultural land. Sudden rise of food supplements based on Morinda species has been increased all over the state as well as in other countries. Although the southern peoples recognized the therapeutic value of M. Tinctoria and used it in the traditional Indian medicinal systems like Siddha and Ayurveda. In this review, the active components, phytochemical aspects, Pharmacological research Morinda tinctoria has been discussed.
