FTIR characterization of Siddha Medicine Lavana Karuppu

Abstract
Background: In Siddha system of medicine, herbs, metals, minerals and animal products are used for medicine preparation. The Lavana Karuppu is a herbo mineral drug. This medicine used for Gunmam (peptic ulcer), Soolai vali (pain), Veekam (swelling), Athisarabedhi (diarrhoea).
Objectives: To characterize the herbo mineral drug “LavanaKaruppu”.
Materials and methods: The ingredients such as Chukku, Omam, Sotruppu.
Result: FTIR spectra analysis, Lavana Karuppu having some organic functional group. Alkane, Tertiary alcohol. Halo compound.
Conclusion: Traditional medicines are always provide higher therapeutic use without causing any harmful effects. This results may form the base for further structural determination of this compound Siddha formulation “Lavana Karuppu”.
